Reggio Emilia
Reggio Emelia inspired Learning
The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy that originated in Reggio Emilia, Italy, founded by Loris Malaguzzi, an early childhood educator and philosopher. This approach is based on the belief that children are the masters of their own learning, driven by curiosity and creativity, and must be exposed to the right influences.
At Littlemore Early School, we are dedicated to creating an environment where children can confidently take charge of their learning from a young age. Our educators play a crucial role in providing opportunities that encourage self-expression, logical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.
The Reggio Emilia philosophy serves as inspiration for our practices at Littlemore Early School, guiding us to create learning opportunities that support the interests of our children, their families, and our educators.
As Reggio-inspired educators, we embrace these principles:
Children are capable of directing their own learning, and their voices are heard and respected.
Open-ended environments, natural elements, and thoughtfully curated materials inspire creativity, exploration, and independence.
Our indoor and outdoor spaces flow together to support uninterrupted play and deep connection with nature.
Aesthetically pleasing environments motivate children to explore and care for their surroundings.
Families are valued as essential partners, collaborators, and advocates in the learning journey, forming a strong, supportive community.
Educators act as co-learners and researchers, observing closely to understand each child's thinking, interests, and curiosities. This guides the creation of thoughtful environments that spark wonder and excitement, what we call the "third teacher."
Drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, we nurture confident, curious, and expressive learners who feel a strong sense of belonging and purpose in their world.
